Did you know???
The united states envIRONmental Protection agency mandates that Recycling programs are managed at the state and local. THere are no current state or local regulations regarding styrofoam in the state of north carolina.
that means, it's our job to do our part in our local communities & knowledge is the greatest challEnge.
when conducting surveys for college students we found that only
50% knew that styrofoam could be recycled.
we need to change that.
share our fliers & Website with your social media, friends and family.
WE ARENT THE ONLY ONES
FOR YEARS ACTIVISTS HAVE BEEN PUSHING FOR THE BAN OF SINGLE-USE PLASTICs and polystyrene.
THESE SUCCESSES CAN BE SEEN AS REGULATIONS BY STATE AND LOCAL LEGISLATURE.
here are some states and counties that did not wait to take initiative.
1) District of Columbia (Washington, DC)
2) Florida (Bal Harbour, FL; Bay Harbor Islands, FL; Key Biscayne, FL; Miami Beach, FL; North Bay Village, FL; Surfside, FL;)
3) Maine (Freeport, ME; Portland, ME)
4) Maryland (Montgomery County, MD)
5) Massachusetts (Amherst, MA; Brookline, MA; Great Barrington, MA; City of Nantucket, MA; County of Nantucket, MA; Pittsfield, MA; Somerville, MA; Williamstown, MA)
6) Minnesota (Minneapolis, MN)
7) New Jersey (Rahway, NJ)
8) Oregon (Ashland, OR; Eugene, OR; Medford, OR; Portland, OR)
9) Texas (San Marcos, TX)
10) New York (New York City, NY)
And many others.
With more action being taken at the local level here than ever, activists will continue to put pressure on the City of Greensboro and the state of North Carolina to offer more sustainable choices for Styrofoam recycling.
As well, activists and environmentalists are turning up the heat on politicians & big business; urging them to make sustainable choices regarding the production, consumption and use of Styrofoam.
