WE'RE SO HAPPY YOU'RE HERE

WHO WE ARE

WETHINKFOAM IS A GROUP OF 5 GUILFORD COLLEGE STUDENTS.

WE ARE LOOKING WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY CREATE CHANGE

AT A LOCAL LEVEL HERE IN GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA. OUR MISSION IS TO INFORM, SHARE AND CREATE CHANGE ONE DAY AT A TIME.

OUR GOALS

DO YOU KNOW?

STYROFOAM IS A TRADEMARK NAME FOR THE CHEMICAL COMPOUND POLYSTYRENE (GOV). THIS EXTREMELY LIGHTWEIGHT MATERIAL IS COMPOSED OF 95% AIR AND IS UNSINKABLE AND NON-DEGRADABLE OVERTIME.

AS WELL AS BEING FOREVER FOAM, THESE CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS MAKE IT SO THAT STYROFOAM OF ANY KIND CAN NOT BE RECYCLED WITH OTHER SINGLE USE PLASTICS.

OUR CURRENT ALTERNATIVE TO FOAM IS TO DISPOSE OF IT AS NORMAL GARBAGE AND ADD TO THE ALREADY FULL LANDFILLS.

AS ACTIVISTS WE STRIVE TO EDUCATE OTHERS ON THE IMPORTANCE AND BENEFITS OF RECYCLING,

SPECIFICALLY STYROFOAM

WE COMPREHEND THAT WE HAVE ALL THE MEANS NECESSARY TO REDUCE TOXIC WASTE & SLOW DOWN GLOBAL WARMING,

BUT WE MUST ACT NOW.

MOST IMPORTANTLY,

WE UNDERSTAND THAT IN ORDER TO CHANGE THE WORLD,

WE NEED YOUR HELP

WHAT WE DO

(CHANGE THAT)

The process of recycling styrofoam starts with the densification process and machine from our model; FOAMCYCLE. With a grant from Recycle Systems out of Durham North Carolina, the whole project became possible. This collaborative effort for change was driven by four non-profit organizations; Emerging Ecology, Environmental Stewardship Greensboro, Greensboro Beautiful and Tiny House Community Development.

As of November 12th, activists were successful in launching a new recycling initiative for Polystyrene foam (#6) and for the first time ever in the state of North Carolina Styrofoam was recycled.
